Sunday Afternoon

We had a wonderful celebration of the Eucharist at San José de la Montaña this morning.  They have been quite a while without a regular priest there and are anticipating the end of July when their new priest arrives.  So it was a pleasure for John to celebrate the Mass and preach about the nature of our freedom in Christ, building on Paul´s letter to the Galatians.

Here is the senior warden of the parish reading the second lesson.  He has had a lot of responsibility in the interim between priests--for example, leading morning prayers when there is no celebrant of the Eucharist-- and after the Mass Tim and Bob were in conference with him about how to order the supplies for the work project tomorrow.

The wife of the senior warden is the LEM and also a lector.

After we left the church we reconnected with an old favorite place, the Hotel Copantl, for lunch, planning the work for the week and counting the money and trying to figure out the percentages of the changes from dollars to lempiras and back again.
Alice and Tim before mass.  Alice is going to work with the children of the parish this coming week, hoping to teach some English to them in a playful and entertaining way.  Tim has the headache of trying to finance everything and make sure the totals add up.  We shall be showing pictures of the work as it progresses this week.

Saturday afternoon

John had an interesting time at the Cathedral del Buen Pastor this afternoon, presenting a workshop in contemplative prayer.  It was well-received and some commented afterwards that it was the first time they had heard of the way of meditation and were pleased to have heard it.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras
Compañeros en Cristo, the Companion Diocese Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana, has once more arrived in San Pedro for a week of work in various activities in the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras.
The Group assembled over the last two days and is staying at our long time Honduran home, The Green Frog Inn.  We immersed ourselves in the place last evening at a wonderful meal at a Garifuna restaurant--some of the best food we have had in Honduras

Seated at table from left to right are: Michael Marcks, Alice Taylor, Tim Skimina, John Schramm, Freddy Orellana (our driver) and Bob Canter (Diocesan Short-Term Mission Coordinator).

The Schedule for today includes a workshop on Contemplative Prayer given by John for clergy and laity of the Diocese at the Cathedral.  The group will also be reconnecting with old friends in the village of Delicias del Norte later in the afternoon.
